Why are you learning French?
Try: Parce que je travaille avec une équipe française.
How long have you been learning French?

Useful French recovery phrases
These phrases buy time without ending the conversation or switching immediately to English.
A realistic first conversation
Read both roles once. Then hide the “You” lines and produce your own answer before checking the example.
What if the next question was not in your lesson?
Qu’aimeriez-vous faire en français dans six mois ?
What would you like to be able to do in French in six months?
Pause, answer one idea, then add one detail:
J’aimerais participer à une réunion sans passer à l’anglais.
I would like to take part in a meeting without switching to English.
Make your reply easier to understand
- Many written final consonants are not pronounced. Learn the phrase as a sound sequence instead of pronouncing every letter.
- French speech flows in short rhythm groups. Say je m’appelle Maya as one connected unit rather than four isolated words.
- If a liaison feels uncertain, choose a clear slower sentence. Reliable production matters more than sounding advanced.
