Practical answer

How do you say “airport” in Dutch?

The standard word is de luchthaven. Learn it inside the journey you are actually likely to make: checking in, confirming baggage, finding security, listening for a gate and boarding time, and repairing one misunderstanding.

Check in

Present the booking, name the destination, and answer the baggage question.

Practise: Use one complete opening that includes your flight or destination.

Reach the gate

Find security, identify the gate, and confirm when boarding begins.

Practise: Repeat the gate and time back before you leave the desk.

Handle a change

A delay, missed connection, or changed gate creates the follow-up a phrase list cannot predict.

Practise: Use one recovery phrase and ask for the next concrete action.

Use it in context

Uw gate is veranderd van B12 naar D4. Kunt u daar op tijd zijn?
Your gate has changed from B12 to D4. Can you get there on time?

Ik denk het wel. Kunt u mij zeggen hoe ik bij gate D4 kom?
I think so. Can you tell me how to get to gate D4?

Speaking guidance

Make the next reply easier to produce

  • Dutch airport compounds look long because related words are joined. Find the useful core first: vlucht, gate, bagage, controle.
  • Repeat critical letters and numbers back as a question. Gate B12, klopt dat? is safer than silently assuming you heard correctly.
  • Use kunt u for a polite service interaction and keep one request per sentence when the airport is noisy.
